Letters From A Tory

Quote of the day

“Faced with a ballot paper, it will come home to them that Ken Livingstone has been there too long, Boris Johnson is too much of a risk and they will vote for me. I don’t think it’s over until it’s over.”

- Brian Paddick, the Lib Dem mayoral candidate who obviously hasn’t been reading the polls

What happens if allthe second preferences go to Mr Paddock? Can he win that way? I do hope not…

Thankfully no. They count all the first preferences, and if no-one gets more than 50% (which they almost certainly won’t) then the two people with the most votes (Ken and Boris) go into the second round, where they include all the second preferences for Ken and Boris in the total. Winner takes all.

Paddick is an irrelevance in the first round, but the Lib Dem second preferences will be crucial in the second round. With a bit of luck, the Lib Dems hate Ken as much as the Conservatives.

Anyone but Ken. London is in peril.
