Letters From A Tory

Quote of the day

“According to my American intern, if it had been the White House, they would have been shot with rubber bullets, tear-gassed but definitely removed instantly. We don’t shoot here, we just let people walk all over democracy”

- Nadine Dorries MP, on the protesters on the roof of the Palace of Westminster.

Gosh, if only we were as reactionary as the Americans. We should absolutely follow their lead in matters of security, especially considering our police force’s record with firearms and rubber-bullet related crowd control. Perhaps we can also round up protesters and keep them detained without trial for a few years.

We could parade the protestors in day-glo orange uniforms as well. Perhaps they could also face a military tribunal? That’ll teach ‘em.

Do we have a Gitmo equivalent? Can we set one up on, say, the Falklands? Or Sark.

Maybe we should fly the protesters over to the US for a taste of real justice, perhaps with a stop-over somewhere in the middle east.

As the public consultation was a farce, these protestors were actually protecting democracy. The Government wastes time and money pretending they listen to the people and then sway dramatically in the direction of the smell of newly printed sterling. Well, I say well done protestors for protecting democracy and the views of the majority.

Public consultations shouldn’t just be about ticking a box and ignoring the British public. And conservatives beware because any future EU referendum is in exactly the same position.
