Letters From A Tory

Sorry you had the limelight stolen

October 3, 2007 · No Comments

Dear David Davis,

I find it hard to believe that anyone can view Gordon Brown’s visit to Iraq as anything other than a cynically calculated move to disrupt the Conservative Party’s momentum.  Unfortunately you were one of the biggest losers yesterday.

Liam Fox did his best to put on a brave face when I’m sure he would have quite liked to use a whole range of profanities in his speech about Gordon Brown.  For the Prime Minister and David Miliband to almost completely avoid questions about Iraq at the Labour Party conference and then to use it (albeit disingenuously) as a political scoreboard is one of the most abhorent pieces of media manipulation I have seen in months.  Your policies on immigration would have grabbed quite a few positive headlines and created a solid impression of how serious the Conservatives are about tackling our uncontrollable immigration policy, but I doubt that the message got through judging by today’s papers.  Admittedly, the actions of Gordon Brown can be taken as a compliment that he is so worried about our revival that he is willing to make such a move.

Hopefully you won’t lose heart over this incident, as David Cameron’s speech can still put off an autumn election until next year.  Best wishes to him for his defining moment as leader of the Conservative Party.

Yours truly,

A.Tory
